Local Assemblyman Kiley calls for suspension of State Gas Tax with SB1638

Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) introduced Assembly Bill 1638 Wednesday afternoon, an urgency measure that would immediately suspend the entire state excise tax on gasoline for a period of six months. This would save Californians over 50 cents per gallon at the pump. "This bill puts money back into the pockets of families at a time when they need it most," Assemblyman Kiley said. "Inflation and record gas prices are making our state even less affordable. Californians need relief." AB 1638 would provide immediate relief to Californians who are paying the nation's highest gas prices. By comparison, a proposal brought forward by the Newsom Administration earlier this week would only pause a small increase ($0.03) on the gas tax set to take effect in July, but would do nothing to reduce the current cost of a gallon of gas. As of Wednesday afternoon a quick survey by Gold Country Media showed gas prices in Folsom hovering between $4.17 and $4.69 per gallon, which membership retailer Costco leading the lowest prices along with Cheaper Gas on and Xpress Gas on East Bidwell. In the Roseville area, Gasbuddy.com reported the lowest price of $4.47 per gallon at Rose's Food and Liquor on Riverside Avenue while Rocklin's lowest price at the pump was $4.34 at Quick Stop on Sunset Boulevard. Gasbuddy showed Lincoln's lowest rate at $4.39 at Raley's and ARCO locations on Lincoln Boulevard. Shell on Taylor Road in Loomis listed today's price at $4.79. Assemblyman Kiley represents the 6th Assembly District, which includes the Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado County communities of Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Loomis, Orangevale, Penryn, Rocklin, Roseville, and Sheridan. At this time no further details have been released on the bill or when it would be reviewed.
