Placer County to consider additional funding for Colfax Skate Park

The Placer County Board of Supervisors were scheduled to consider an additional $130,000 be provided to the city of Colfax for the proposed skate park Tuesday. The item was instead pulled from the consent agenda and is slated to return to a future meeting for consideration. More than $135,000 has been raised over the past nine years to make the skate park a reality through the Colfax Green Machine. Ty Conners, project lead, told the Colfax Council in March $20,000 has been spent on current engineer plans and $6,000 on a noise study. In an effort to move the project forward, the city approved to allocate $75,000 toward the project, with another $25,000 for consideration at the next plan check-in. According to the staff report, the board previously approved $75,000 of Colfax-area park dedication fees be given to the city for the skate park project on Feb. 22, 2022. Conners said the request for an additional $130,000 in park dedication fees is due to increases in inflation and prevailing wages. The Placer County Parks Commission unanimously voted March 21 to recommend the board approve the use of the dedication fees for the skate park project. The staff report notes if approved, a new agreement for $205,000, inclusive of the $130,000 and the $75,000 previously approved, will be executed between the county and Colfax, with a performance period through 2026. Placer County Parks Administrator Andy Fisher confirmed any funds unspent at the end of the performance period will be returned to the park dedication fees account.
