John Myron Schug 3/08/1943 - 9/11/2025

John Myron Schug, 82, of Auburn, California passed away unexpectedly on September 11, 2025. He was born on March 8, 1943 in Muncy Valley, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents Clara and Myron, brother Wayne and sisters Nancy and Kay. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Schug; their children Sam (Nicole) Schug, Jake Schug, and Nicki (CharlesWolff) Schug; and his beloved grandchildren Quinn, Max, Alex, Felix, Jonas and Aisha. John grew up in rural Muncy Valley, where he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors while hunting, fishing and playing in Muncy Creek. That passion carried throughout his life, from camping and fishing in Wells Gray Provincial Park in British Columbia to hunting in Colorado with family and friends. He especially enjoyed traveling around California, up to Alaska, and back across the country to Pennsylvania. He would never pass up a cross-country drive particularly if it meant time spent with loved ones. For more than 40 years, John built homes with skill and care, leaving a lasting mark on his community. Outside of work he was an active member of Auburn Presbyterian Church and the Civic Affairs community group. In addition to hunting and fishing, he enjoyed camping, sailboat racing, reading history, playing golf and sharing stories. Though a man of few words, his sense of humor, sharp memory, and easy laugh made him unforgettable. He had a gift for recalling details – about people, places, and events – that brought history and personal stories to life. Family was the center of John's life. He remained closely connected with family in Pennsylvania and was the last surviving sibling. John was a devoted husband to Mary, his wife of 58 years and a proud father and grandfather. He was deeply involved in his children's activities, from coaching soccer to a starter at ski races and drove to countless games and meets. Later, he found joy cheering on his grandchildren at wrestling tournaments, and basketball and soccer games. John built lasting friendships wherever he lived. Incredible and cherished friends in Auburn, those he and Mary met while attending Chico State, and lifelong childhood friends from Pennsylvania. More than anything, he loved time spent with family, especially simply hanging out with his grandchildren. A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
