Thunder claps the Raiders with a 60-point outburst

The last time Rocklin scored 60 points in a game was the season opener in 2015 against Pleasant Grove, when the current Thunder seniors were still in eighth grade. Rocklin had a number of players who chipped in big in Rocklin's 60-27 romp over Rio Americano Friday. "We had a lot of explosive plays," said Rocklin head coach Jason Adams. "We've been able to start fast in all of our games, offensively and defensively. We just haven't put a game together yet… We've got to put four quarters together or we're not going to make it through the Sierra Foothill League." Adams pointed out the play of sophomore Toran O'Harran, who was still in elementary school during that last 60-point outburst, for sticking to his role and delivering punishing blocks upfield for playmakers Cole Douglas, Jaylen Pickens, Mason Becker and big brother Nolan O'Harran. "Nothing's going to show up in the statsheet," Adams said of Toran O'Harran. "But he's earning a lot of respect from his teammates." Rocklin is now 3-1 heading into its annual Quarry Bowl matchup at crosstown rival Whitney next Friday. DEL ORO 41, SACRAMENTO 20 If Sheldon Conde is finding his groove, then Del Oro will again be dangerous when Sierra Foothill League play starts next week. Conde did indeed have something going Friday, reaching the end zone three times as Del Oro put up 41 first-half points at Hughes Stadium at Sacramento City College. But it was the play of the Golden Eagles' front five opening up space for Conde that had head coach Jeff Walters smiling."I've been really impressed by the continued growth of our offensive line," Walters said of center Tucker Black, guards David Veske and Brian West and tackles Carson Evans and Jared Hill. "They've been doing a great job week in and week out and last night I saw them take over a game." Kal Lunders hit Logan Foster for a short score and big brother Aiden Foster had two interceptions, including a pick-6, and a rushing score of his own to help the Golden Eagles improve to 3-1 heading into the SFL opener next week at home against Granite Bay in the Hometown Honor Bowl, which celebrates and recognizes the sacrifices of military personnel, first responders, paramedics, police officers, firefighters and correctional officers, among others. "We're extremely excited to be a part of that again," said Walters. "It's a humbling experience. In football, you hear the concept of 'brotherhood' used a lot, but it takes on a whole new meaning when you're in the foxhole… It's a great way to say thank you for their sacrifice." VACAVILLE 28, GRANITE BAY 16 Riding the high of a 24-0 shutout of Jesuit just last week, early turnovers plagued the Grizzlies against Vacaville on the road. A fumble on the opening drive led to a Bulldog touchdown. "They out-Granite Bay'd us last night," said Grizzlies head coach Jeff Evans. "We made our fair share of mistakes last night that cost us early, and good teams tend to exploit it." Ty Peterson's 5-yard TD run knotted the game at seven before the first quarter ended and Justin Sampson's 42-yard field goal gave the Grizzlies a 10-7 lead until Vacaville responded with a short score from Chris Island to take a halftime lead. Late in the third quarter, a 96-yard rushing touchdown from Vacaville made it 21-10. Cole Roth ran in his fourth rushing TD of the season near the eight-minute mark of the fourth to bring it to 21-16. From there, the Bulldogs kept eating chains and clock before another score from Island punctuated the Vacaville victory. Sierra Foothill League opens next Friday as the Grizzlies (2-2) travel to longtime rival Del Oro (3-1), two teams very familiar with each other. "There are no tricks. We know all about them and they know all about us," Evans said. "We're more Rocky Balboa than Apollo Creed. If we win, it's going to be ugly… We're going to stay in the middle of the ring and swing it out." RIO LINDA 28, ROSEVILLE 21, OT The Tigers seem to find themselves in a position to win every week. It took overtime for the State champion Knights to subdue Roseville Friday night at Hanson Field. Tied at 21 in the extra period, Rio Linda's Cameron Skattebo took a 25-yard run to the house. On the ensuing Roseville possession, the Knights held tough on 4th-and-1 to hold on for their third win of the season. "It was definitely a good test for us," said Roseville head coach Joe Cattolico. "We rose to the occasion. We just needed to make one more play." Joe Brijs had multiple touchdown runs for the second week in a row and Cole Errecart punched in a score as well for the Tigers. Roseville (2-2) preps for its Capital Valley Conference opener at home against Woodcreek in the annual Junction Bowl rivalry game next Friday. FORESTHILL 26, SAN JUAN 23 The banged-up Wildfires started Friday's game against San Juan with a bang. Kaiden Pennington hit Nick Lechner and Trace Hendrickson on airstrikes and rushed in his own 1-yard score to send Foresthill into the locker room up 20-12. San Juan tied the game at 20 after a score with a two-point conversion and took the lead after a turnover and a field goal. But the Wildfires responded midway through the fourth as Brody Siefker put his team back in front with a rushing touchdown. "I think we played our best game to date since I've been with the program," said Foresthill head coach Steve Collier. "Even when we were down late, they never gave up hope… We played the length of the 48 minutes, and for me, that was the highlight of the game." Foresthill (2-2) looks to stay on the winning track at Esparto next week, a team that beat fellow Sacramento Metro Athletic League member Western Sierra 45-21 on Friday. The Spartans beat the Wildfires last season 38-15. ESPARTO 45, WESTERN SIERRA 21 Esparto jumped on Western Sierra 14-0 early in the first quarter. The Wolves responded with a touchdown from quarterback Chris Delaloye (12-for-14, 187 yards and two TDs in the air) on a keeper in the second quarter, but the Spartans tacked on two more scores heading into halftime with a 28-7 cushion. "We had our ups and downs," said Western Sierra head coach Zach Logue. "We're definitely improving. We need to work on getting more physical at times, consistent, work on our tackling. You can see the progression. We're playing some pretty good teams, but we haven't peaked yet." Western Sierra got a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns from Skyler Mauricio, who tallied five catches for 133 yards. Logue also pointed out the play of freshman Jacob Fletcher, who plugged in and started at center and performed well for the Wolves, who take on their bye week this week.
