Talent galore on the All-SFL football team

What if we suited these guys up to play the rest of the region in the Optimist All-Star Game? How about Sierra or American River College? Sac State? OK, we won't get out of hand here, but it's fun to imagine this year's All-Sierra Foothill League football team trying to hold its own. As most expected, perennial league juggernaut Folsom came away with the majority of the All-SFL awards, which were recently voted on by the league's coaches. A league that advanced six of its seven teams to the postseason – with four of them winning at least one playoff game and two advancing to the section finals – was highlighted with Bulldog blue in the All-SFL department. After being named the SFL Player of the Year last spring during baseball season, two-way standout CJ Hutton did it again for the Bulldog football team. Hutton, who recently committed to play both sports at UC Davis next year, has tallied over 1,000 receiving yards with 16 total touchdowns for Folsom. He is also a big-time playmaker in the Folsom secondary. His batted ball in the closing moments against Edison Nov. 15 is a huge reason why the Bulldogs moved to the second round. Teammate and receiver Elijhah Badger was named the SFL Offensive Player of the Year. Badger has a three-year varsity total of close to 3,400 yards with 52 career touchdown grabs. He is also known to be dangerous in the return game as well with six career punt or kickoff returns for touchdowns. Breaking up the Bulldogs individual reign, Rocklin's Christian Awwad is the SFL Defensive Player of the Year. Awwad was no stranger to breaking things up in his senior campaign from the middle linebacker position for the Thunder. Awwad led Rocklin with 83 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and two interceptions while also sacking opposing QBs four times. Awwad was a big reason for the Thunders' resurgence to a top seed in the Division II playoffs. Folsom's DeShawn Lynch and Grant's Isaiah Tupou were recognized as Co-Linemen of the Year. Lynch is highly recruited by multiple Pac-12 schools while Tupou is committed to play at BYU. In his first year with the Bulldogs, Paul Doherty was named as the SFL Coach of the Year. With a new face on the Folsom sidelines, the Bulldogs never lost a step, finishing with a perfect 6-0 SFL record and keeping alive a league winning streak of 47 consecutive games.
