Man arrested with $1,600 in fake currency in Roseville

A Sacramento man was arrested Monday in Roseville with approximately $1,600 in fake U.S. currency and materials for making counterfeit bills, according to the Roseville Police Department. Justin P. Rawluk, 36, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license, possession of fictitious currency and possession of a controlled substance. According to the Placer County booking and release report, Rawluk's bail is set at $65,000. The incident occurred after a routine traffic stop for a broken tail light, according to a Roseville Police Department Facebook post. The officer made contact with two occupants inside the vehicle, both of who were on searchable probation out of Sacramento County. After the arrival of another officer, the decision was made to search the vehicle, the post stated. While searching the trunk, officers located the fake U.S. currency as well as materials for making counterfeit bills, according to the police department. Rawluk was arrested and transported to the Auburn Jail. Roseville Police Department spokesman Rob Baquera said the other unnamed person in the vehicle was cited for possession of a controlled substance but not arrested. While Baquera said there are no statistics to support an increase in the use of counterfeit money over the holidays, the possibility of encountering fake currency does exist with increased seasonal transactions.
