'Rock the Stadium II' coming Halloween weekend at Gold Country Fairgrounds

Golden Eagle Football Association is hosting its second annual "Rock the Stadium" concert event Friday, Oct. 30, at Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn. "Rock the Stadium II" doubles as a fundraiser for the Del Oro Golden Eagles football program and a night of family-friendly fun with live music, food vendors and community spirit. "This is an opportunity for people in the school world to come out and participate in an activity that's both safe and community-friendly," said Del Oro varsity football coach Mike Maben. "A lot of people right now are really hungry for any type of social interaction, and this might fill the need to be part of the community while maintaining social distance and being safe." Following the lead of the recent "Drive-In Live" concert series, hosted by the Gold Country Fairgrounds, Golden Eagle Football is working with BP Productions and All Events Management to put on a socially distanced show with cover tunes from Groundwave – a classic rock revision ranging from AC/DC to Tom Petty – and Mëtal Strëet Böyz – an ʼ80s-'90s mashup that will bring the crowd everything from Mötley Crüe to Britney Spears and everything in between. Maben said one main goal from last year's event, which entertained 400-500 people, was to make this year's more family-friendly. "One thing we said last year was that we wished we could've gotten the kids more involved," Maben said. "This year, we put out the idea earlier to have a festival-esque type thing." Since the concert kicks off Halloween weekend, costumes are encouraged. Maben hinted at a contest for the best-decorated car as well. Del Oro football players, who will begin selling tickets Thursday, will be heavily involved in this year's production. In addition to working the event (directing parking, setup, clean-up, etc.), the 2020-21 Golden Eagles will be introduced to the crowd during the intermission. "After the first act finishes, there will be a little time between acts, so we'll have Del Oro football players provide the entertainment," Maben said. "Some of them might be more nervous about that than the games." Several local food vendors will be on site, including Auburn Alehouse, Old Town Pizza, Carol's Deli and Market, and more. Tickets cost $100 per car (up to six people allowed per car) and can be purchased from any Del Oro football player.
