CARE Ministry in Meadow Vista to add frozen turkeys to holiday food box giveaways

When Pastor Cedric Lee and I felt we were to start our church Celebration Community Fellowship 22 years ago, one of our main goals was to be a blessing to our community. One avenue that this has come about is through our wonderful CARE Ministry. CARE means Community Assisting and Reaching Everyone. The CARE Ministry is led by Judy Powers and her assistant, Sue Ballentine. Celebration Community Fellowship in Meadow Vista partners with CARE Ministry to supply a food box for food-sensitive families in our community. This ministry has been needed more than ever during COVID-19. The drive-through program serves on the first and third Thursday of each month from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Boxes contain meat, dairy, yogurt, cheese, fresh produce, canned and jarred basics, bread, dessert and more. CARE relies on donations from our church members, individuals and businesses. Placer Food Bank provides bulk food for a great savings. We can feed about 170 people, with large boxes for about $100. The CARE team also prays for concerns people have, and this has provided great comfort in addition to being given food. So many people are grateful and have said that was even more important than the food. Such a beautiful community we serve. Judy remembers when a dear friend who used her day-care service brought a big turkey for her financially struggling family. Judy, at that time in life, really needed the help. This lady's kindness touched her heart and was the inspiration to Judy heading up Celebration's CARE Ministry. Sue believes it's a great ministry. Run by a great lady. With a lot of wonderful, caring volunteers. She feels serving hurting people is the same as serving Jesus. This Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, the Celebration CARE Ministry will be giving away 50 food boxes that will include frozen turkeys. We are so excited to be able to provide a full holiday meal to families in need. This will be in addition to our first and third Thursdays of the week that provide the normal boxes of food.
