All-CVC football honors best of shortened season

Despite only a handful of games able to be played in this COVID-stricken season, the Capital Valley Conference football coaches decided to honor their top players. The 2020-21 All-CVC Football Team was revealed last week as the conference's seven teams – Antelope, Bella Vista, Inderkum, River Valley, Roseville, Woodcreek and Yuba City – each nominated their top six performers. Locally in the Roseville area, Woodcreek recognized two seniors and four juniors. Seniors Ronnie Ramos, who had three interceptions, and Tyler Roberts, who had 11 tackles and three passes defended, led the way for the Timberwolves. The four juniors included receiver/linebacker Nicolai Nielsen, workhorse running back Alex Riffie, explosive kick returner Cooper Young and inside linebacker Mitchell Sarmento, who led the Woodcreek defense with 34 tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception. Woodcreek finished 2-2 overall with a 1-1 mark in CVC play. Roseville, which also went 2-2, all against conference opponents, was highlighted by senior running back Joe Brijs, who averaged nearly 65 rushing yards per game and had four touchdowns. Senior quarterback Cole Errecart added 111 rushing yards to his 508 passing yards to lead the Tigers' offense. Senior running back Hunter Hatch led the team with 349 rushing yards, 150 receiving yards and six total touchdowns. His rushing numbers were aided by senior offensive lineman Kyle Mattix. Senior defensive back Brett Knudsen and junior linebacker Andrew Lucero anchored the Roseville defense with 27 tackles between them. "Joe and Hunter were one of the best 1-2 punch threat running backs in the league, both dual-threat guys," Roseville coach Adam Reinking said. "You add in Cole Errecart, who could beat you with his arms and legs, we had three guys with over 600 yards of total offense each through four games. Good players, but really awesome individuals as were Mattix, Lucero and Knudsen." Antelope boasted all seniors – lineman Dean Abdullah, receiver Joshua Aburime, quarterback Quincy Gallon, running back De'Magea Hogan, defensive back Jerry Huddleston and kicker Jalen O'Roy – as Titan representatives. Antelope joined Inderkum as the only teams to not suffer a CVC loss. 2020-21 ALL-CAPITAL VALLEY CONFERENCE FOOTBALL ANTELOPE Dean Abdullah, OL, SR Joshua Aburime, WR/DE, SR Quincy Gallon, QB, SR De'Magea Hogan, RB, SR Jerry Huddleston, DB, SR Jalen O'Roy, K, SR BELLA VISTA Bryan Henkel, FB/LB, SR Tyson King, OL, SR Caelan Sallander, WR/CB, JR Sam Sandoval, OL/DL, JR Jeremiah Schurr, RB/DB, JR Elijah Shaw, RB/DB, JR INDERKUM Christian Benham-Sheppard, TE/OLB, JR Amir Lemmons, WR/DB, SR Amani Pressley, WR/DB, JR Maui Uhatafe, LB/OL, JR Carlos Wilson, WR/DB, SO Vincent Wright, LB/RB, JR RIVER VALLEY George Baker, RB/S, JR Blake Garner, OL/DL, SR Alex Sandoval, OLB/FB, SR Sutantar Summan, OL, SR Raiden Toche, WR/DB, SR Colin Totman, QB/DB, JR ROSEVILLE Joe Brijs, RB, SR Cole Errecart, ATH, SR Hunter Hatch, RB, SR Brett Knudsen, DB, SR Andrew Lucero, LB, JR Kyle Mattix, OL, SR WOODCREEK Nicolai Neilsen, WR/OLB, JR Ronnie Ramos, RB/DB, SR Alex Riffie, RB/OLB, JR Tyler Roberts, RB/DB, SR Mitchell Sarmento, ILB/OL, JR Cooper Young, RB/DB, JR YUBA CITY Tre Henry, DB, SR Kyle Hu, DE, SR Gehrig Larrigan, DE, SR Emiliano Murillo, LB, SR Dane Tedder, RB/SS, SR Gilberto Vela, DL, SR
