Field sports complex construction in west Roseville to start spring 2023

On Wednesday night, the Roseville City Council approved a purchase and sales agreement with West Roseville, L.L.C. by buying up to 20 acres in west Roseville for a maximum purchase price of $5,227,200 to create a long-field sports complex. "Another park is coming," Roseville Mayor Krista Bernasconi said as the council approved the agreement. This complex will be the 81st park in Roseville, according to Bernasconi. The agreement between the city of Roseville and West Roseville L.L.C. includes a contingency period for both parties, with a goal of closing escrow between April 30 and June 30, 2022. Construction for the field complex will start in spring 2023 and last up to 18 months. The agreement contains entitlement processing that could result in reducing five acres from the maximum 20 acres, with a price of $3,920,400 for at least 15 acres of land. This would only happen if the five-acre dedication occurs before the close of escrow. By agreeing to this purchase, this guarantees that the city would buy 20 acres for the original price. Wednesday's agreement will authorize the Roseville city manager to execute the agreement on behalf of the city. This ordinance was presented by Roseville Parks, Recreation and Libraries director Jill Geller and assistant city attorney Joe Speaker. The complex will be located in west Roseville on Phillip Road, Brookstone Drive and Durango Way. This 20-acre-long field sports complex will have between eight and 10 fields that provide opportunities for numerous sports teams in the community, plenty of parking space, a playground, picnic areas, restrooms, concessions and other amenities. The complex will benefit local sports programs, promote sports tourism for the community and be a regional sports draw. This would add revenue to the city's General Fund in the form of sales tax and occupancy tax revenue from out-of-town visitors at the complex, according to the presentation. After Geller's and Speaker's presentation to City Council, council commended them for including extra parking space in their complex plan, as this will be a huge plus for the community. "I appreciate that you have the extra parking, I just want to say that on record," said council member Scott Alvord. "I know that is very important to that neighborhood." The Roseville City Council moved to approve the purchase and sales agreement for the 20 acres in west Roseville for $5,227,200 in an unanimous three-member vote. Vice Mayor Bruce Houdesehlt and councilmember Pauline Roccucci were absent, due to previous commitments with their specific committees.
