Colfax soars to win over Marysville in PVL girls soccer

Colfax scored early and often in its girls soccer match Thursday night en route to an 8-0 thumping of Marysville. Six of Colfax's eight goals came off the foot of an underclassman. The Falcons have outscored their opponents 15-1 in the first two games of Pioneer Valley League play. "We started slow, played pretty sloppy in the first half. But we cleaned it up and the second half was a lot more efficient," said Colfax coach Dave Ray, who took over for the night as head coach Kara Diederichs was out with an illness. "I think every day, it's been a struggle of not having practices, but the games are times to get better every day." Freshman Kaia Diederichs scored the first of her three goals less than a minute into the game, chipping one in over the Marysville keeper. Diederichs netted her second about 10 minutes later, and the final midway through the second half. Other scorers for Colfax included Lillian Patrick, Emma Menth, Savannah Sheets, Carly Patrick and Kimberly McCarty. "I feel like we're all playing very well together and connecting a lot of passes," Kaia Diederichs said. "We're feeling pretty confident and good for the upcoming games." Colfax is the favorite to win the PVL for the second straight season and has its sights set on a second straight Sac-Joaquin Section championship appearance. "We've had the same coaching staff for basically eight years so we know what it is to win a section title and that is the goal," Ray said. "But we got to start when in league and then make it into playoffs." The Falcons are on the right track, as they are 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the PVL. Colfax will be back in action Monday night at Center.
