OT goal by Klaire Horton allows Eagles to advance; Oak Ridge also advances in D1

Vista del Lago's varsity girls' soccer team needed overtime to beat seventh-seeded Mitty in the Division II Nor-Cal playoffs. During the only 15-minute overtime period, Alex Klos played a through ball to Marieke Ten Brink, who then crossed the ball to Klaire Horton, who scored the game's only goal, a golden goal, in fact, to win the game for the Eagles, 1-0. "We had more of the possession, especially later in the first half and in the second half," Vista coach Kennedy Chongo said. "At times, they were able to disrupt our momentum with their pace and physicality. We weathered the storm, mainly from anxiety and playing scared. We finally settled down and played our game, which led to a super exciting victory." The Eagles will host the third-seed, Leigh, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, as the Vista's varsity boys' team will follow with a game against Patterson at 7 p.m., the team they defeated to win the District III Section Championship. Oak Ridge Oak Ridge's varsity girls' soccer team defeated Windsor, 2-0, on Tuesday to advance in the Nor-Cal Division 1 playoffs. The Trojans received goals from Olivia Chimienti and Sam Torres, while Kate Plachy kept all balls out of her net. "They were a good team, but we played well and controlled the game," Oak Ridge coach Rino Chimienti said. Chimienti said the team hasn't let up since winning a section title, as the team has had the goal of winning the Nor-Cal title all season. "We've tried to keep them motivated," Chimienti said. "Our three goals were to win the league title, then the section, and then Nor-Cal. The seniors really want this." Oak Ridge will host fourth-seeded Mountain View at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
