Search suspended for missing Colfax man

The Placer County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday evening the search for Michael Fons has been suspended. Fons, 69, of Colfax was last seen and has not been in contact with family since Monday. According to the Sheriff's Office, more than two dozen search and rescue personnel, including crews from Butte, San Mateo and Nevada counties, Tahoe Nordic and Placer County Sheriff's Office search and rescue, searched a two-mile radius in the China Wall area. Thursday marked the third day of search efforts after a deputy located a vehicle parked in the area in the middle of Foresthill Road on Monday night. Fons is described at 6-feet tall and 170 pounds, and was last seen Monday morning wearing pajamas. The Sheriff's Office said Fons is terminally ill and easily confused. Deputies searched the area Monday night utilizing snowmobiles. Search efforts resumed Tuesday morning with search and rescue volunteers, unmanned aerial systems and the Falcon 30 helicopter. Wednesday efforts included the Falcon 30, 4x4s, an off-highway vehicle unit, motorcycles and 55 search and rescue personnel from Placer, Marin, Santa Clara, Nevada and El Dorado counties and the California Office of Emergency Services CARDA dog team. Anyone who sees Fons is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 530-886-5375.
