Remote rescue of injured hike in El Dorado Hills was team effort among agencies

Units from the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, along with CAL FIRE, the El Dorado County Fire Protection District and Cameron Park Fire Department, performed a remote area medical rescue of a fallen hiker in the upper narrows of Folsom Lake last Wednesday afternoon. After receiving a 9-1-1 call from a woman who witnessed a hiker fall from the popular Darrington Trail, units responded to the Salmon Falls Bridge area to gain access to the hiker. Fire crews reached the hiker and were able to mobilize her to the edge of the water where crews aboard an El Dorado Hills Fire rescue boat 84 responded. The victim was transported across the river and transported to a nearby hospital. "I'm really glad she was alive. I called the 9-1-1 call in," said witness Jalaina Ogden in a social media thread thanking rescue teams. "Shocking to see, may God watch over her recovery. I waited until she was rescued… before I left the scene. My prayers are with her for a swift recovery." The victim was not identified and the extent of her injuries was not reported. The El Dorado Hills Fire Department thanked the additional agencies for their assistance in the remote rescue. The Darrington Trail is a popular trail for hikers and mountain bikers. The trail is noted as being intermediate to advanced when it comes to its rating for users. It travels for 10 miles one way with many areas of the trail running along steep embankments and drop offs that descend to the river below.
