Athlete of the Week: Brandon Graydon scores six touchdowns for Roseville in shootout loss

In each of the five games the Roseville High football team has played, their senior quarterback, Brandon Graydon, has had multi-touchdown games including on Sept. 15 in a 48-42 shootout loss against Antelope. Graydon finished the contest against the Titans with 326 yards of offense and six touchdowns, including five rushing touchdowns. He played last year as a running back while his older brother, Ryan, played as the quarterback. In 2021, Brandon Graydon totaled 926 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. This season, Graydon already has 13 rushing touchdowns and 499 yards on the ground. He is currently second in the state in quarterback rushing yards and tied for 12th in total touchdowns. Gold Country Media asked Graydon some questions and his answers follow. What is the best part about playing football at Roseville High School? Graydon: "I think the best part about playing at Roseville is the ongoing traditions, since the school is over 100 years old. We have our traditional walk out before home games, we have our team dinners, and our homecoming and winter ball rallies." How long have you been playing competitively? Graydon: "I've been playing football since I was 9 years old. Did any of your family members play sports and if so, which ones and at what levels? Graydon: "My dad played football, baseball, and basketball in high school." You totaled 326 yards of offense and six touchdowns last Thursday night. You also have 546 yards in four games so far this season. Do you feel that being a running back last season has contributed to your ability to be a dual-threat quarterback? Graydon: "Absolutely, I think my past few years as a running back have for sure helped with skills as well as confidence when running the ball. I look at it as a second option on passes where I feel like most quarterbacks would be intimidated by the run game." Do you have a favorite professional athlete? If so, who and why? Graydon: "I wouldn't say I have a singular favorite athlete but if I were to pick an athlete I like for a specific reason, I would pick Taysom Hill. He's in the NFL still playing more than one position during games." You also play baseball and basketball at Roseville High. How long have you played those sports for and are there any other sports you've played competitively? Graydon: "I've been playing baseball since I could pick up a bat. I've been playing since Tee Ball and would throw and hit before I was old enough to be in Tee Ball. Basketball has kind of just been a backup hobby to keep me busy. I used to play in rec leagues just to have fun with my friends and my brother." What are your biggest strengths as a quarterback? Graydon: "I think being able to keep the defense on their toes between passing and running is probably one of my biggest strengths and if I have a shot to run, I will do it." What are your biggest goals for the remainder of the season? Graydon: "I think my biggest goals are to keep being a leader, keep getting better and working hard at practice. As far as numbers go, I want at least 1,000 yards per each category (rushing and passing). I also want to win the league and have a deep playoff run." What is/has been your favorite class in high school and why? Graydon: "My favorite class in high school so far is probably rec admin. We get to go to our nearest elementary school, which is Ferris Spanger Elementary School. We teach the students different kinds of physical education lessons. It feels good to know I get to help with the development of the future at Roseville High and just the future in general." Who is your favorite musical artist/band? Graydon: "I enjoy listening to country music. Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Bailey Zimmerman and Zach Bryan all make some good music with some impactful lyrics about life." Favorite restaurant and favorite food? Graydon: "My favorite food is probably Mexican food. I'm not exactly sure I have a favorite restaurant but Don Quixote's Mexican Grill is always good." Outside of school and playing football, what do you like to do in your free time? Graydon: "I enjoy working out, hanging out with friends and family, surfing, snowboarding, playing golf and going on drives with friends." Is there a particular job you'd like to have someday? Graydon: "A job I'm really trying to work toward is being a firefighter. It has always kind of been an idea of mine but I've decided that's truly what I want to do." If you had advice for other local athletes, what would you tell them? Graydon: "If you have dreams, chase them and if you have time, enjoy it. There's always a time to make good memories on and off the field. Be the best version of yourself that you can. You can get just about anywhere with hard work, dedication and desire."
