Folsom ceremony honors lives lost in 9/11 terrorist attacks

The Folsom community gathered at Folsom City Lions Park on Monday to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. "Their sacrifice is also a reminder for us every day about the sacrifice that our men and women in fire departments and law enforcement agencies across the country make on a daily basis, putting their lives on the line for the protection of our communities," Congressman Kevin Kiley said Monday morning. The ceremony began at 8:46 a.m. - the same time American Airlines flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on that fateful morning. Other speakers included Folsom Fire Chief Ken Cusano, Folsom Police Chief Rick Hillman, Folsom Mayor Rosario Rodriguez, Senator Roger Niello and Assemblyman Josh Hoover. The attacks, which included hijacking and crashing two jets into the World Trade Center skyscrapers in New York, claimed the lives of 2,977 people, including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers. The ceremony concluded with a prayer led by Pastor Daniel Vang of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and "Taps" played by Vista del Lago High School student Gillian Highland.
