Placer approves support letter for DeWitt group to fundraise for theater restoration

The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved a letter of support for DeWitt Community Complex (DCC) to independently raise funds for the DeWitt Theater restoration during its consent agenda Tuesday. The DCC is proposing to renovate the DeWitt Theater into a performance and multi-use theater that could seat 154-194 individuals for live performances, youth and school programs, master classes for performing arts, film events and community and business events. On Aug. 15, the DCC provided the board with an overview of project benchmarks and the non-profit's requests for the county to provide approval of the operating/business plan, written support for the project and additional time for a campaign feasibility study to be conducted. The board expressed concern of the county becoming obligated to the project legally or financially later down the line. The letter confirms the board voted to support the DCC's efforts to independently raise funds for the proposed renovation of the theater and to allow an 18-month extension for the campaign feasibility study to be conducted. The letter also notes the DCC's campaign feasibility study must be submitted to the Placer County Department of Facilities Management no later than March 26, 2025.
