Vikings fall to Bruins, 21-8

Ponderosa handed Oakmont its seventh loss in seven games on Friday night, beating the Vikings, 21-8. Yes, the Bruins won the game because they scored more points than the Vikings, but they also benefited from holding on to the ball for much of the game. Even when they weren't scoring, they had the ball for long stretches and the Vikings couldn't get it back. "Ultimately, that was the difference in the game," Oakmont coach Jake Messina said. "Their quarterback pulled the ball and ran with it quite a bit and we couldn't stop him. When he ran it, he got the first down. "They didn't score a lot, but they seemed to have the ball the whole game. We fumbled on the first play of the game, and turned the ball over three or four times. We haven't really turned the ball over much this season, so for turnovers to hurt us was sort of surprising." With Ponderosa dominating time of possession, that meant few possessions and less plays for Oakmont. Messina said the team only had six possessions. "When you get six possessions, every offensive call is important," Messina said. "Every play is magnified. We really didn't have the ball too much." The statistics show that Oakmont had nine rushing attempts and nine passing attempts in the game. "With our three or four turnovers and with us not able to get off the field, it was a recipe for disaster," Messina said. "It was difficult to watch that kind of implosion, especially since we hadn't had turnovers issues all season. I thought we had a good week of practice too." Quin Duran caught a touchdown pass from Beau Ogles and also caught the two-point conversion to make the final score 21-8. The good news is Oakmont has a good chance to win a game next week, as they face off against another team without a win this season, Lincoln. Both teams are 0-7. Oakmont has scored about 30 more points and allowed about 25 less points then the Zebras, but the game will be played in Lincoln.
