Folsom traffic cameras aid in arrest of retail thieves

Two women were arrested Thursday, Oct. 12, in relation to a series of retail thefts with the aid of traffic cameras. According to the Folsom Police Department, a retailer reported a theft occurred and the suspects, described as two women using a stroller to hide and steal clothing, had just left the store. Officers were unable to reach the store in time to catch the suspects but used the vehicle description, with traffic cameras and license plate reader, to identify the vehicle. According to the police department, officers believed the vehicle was related to an earlier theft and found the women moved to another store in the area. Officers waited and detained the suspects when they returned to their vehicle, despite their attempt to run away. FPD confirmed the stroller contained only more stolen clothing and no child. A search of the women and vehicle revealed clothing from the reporting party and another Folsom store. Additionally, one of the women had a strong magnet, which was used on store security devices. Folsom Police confirmed the stolen items totaled $3,000 and were from Gap, Nike and Dick's Sporting Goods. Lazhane Thomas, 25, of San Francisco and Antaeyzhia Johnson, 28, of Modesto were booked into the Sacramento County Jail for grand theft, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy and resisting arrest. According to Sacramento County inmate information, Thomas was released from custody Thursday. No in-custody or release information was located for Johnson.
