Rocklin Fire Department reports statistics in annual report

Deputy Fire Chief Reginald Williams presented the Rocklin Fire Department's 2023 annual report to the Rocklin City Council this month. Williams outlined data on the number and type of calls to each station, response times and heat maps showing the locations of fire and emergency medical service (EMS) calls, among other important trends. In 2023, the Rocklin Fire Department responded to 6,216 calls for service between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, which was a decrease of 3.2 percent from the year prior. Emergency medical services accounted for a majority of the calls (4,165 incidents) with the fire department responding to an average of 518 incidents per month. According to the annual report, the average response time to structure fire calls was 5.25 minutes, the average response time to medical calls was 5.13 minutes, and the average response to all calls was 5.38 minutes. "Rocklin Fire Department's goal is to be able to respond to incidents within 5 minutes 90 percent of the time," the report stated. Heat maps were presented to council to illustrate the different areas around the city the department would be called to respond to. Williams said particular areas, especially those with care facilities, tend to produce more calls, most likely due to medical issues. Public outreach and education was also highlighted, including hands-only CPR training, outreach to schools and community event participation. Fire prevention personnel and firefighters conducted 34 public education events, reaching thousands of residents in 2023, Williams said. "The Rocklin Fire Department continues to go out into the community and train the community on CPR, fire life safety, prevention and other things," Williams said. The annual report also highlighted two significant events that resulted in saving the life of occupants who could not exit on their own. "On both occurrences, the fire crews responded expeditiously, worked efficiently as a team, and deployed effective tactics that resulted in saving the life of the occupants," the report stated. "Each day Rocklin firefighters show exceptional courage in lifesaving efforts." Councilmembers shared their gratitude for Chief Williams and the entire fire department team. "We appreciate the detail and the report and all that you and your team do," Councilmember Bill Halldin said. "This was an extraordinary year and great efforts by the entire team and I know the entire community appreciates everything you do."
