Placer Repertory Theater puts twist on 'MacBeth'

Placer Repertory Theater brings a special twist on Shakespeare's MacBeth as its first main season show for 2024-25. This version takes inspiration from Alfred Jarry's UBU ROI. The French play premiered and closed on the same night in December 1869. It was described in history as the crowd was so offended by the performance a riot broke out. This show mixes MacBeth and Lady MacBeth with UBU ROI's comically abused Pa UBU and Ma UBU. Placer Repertory Theater's President Tess Forsyth warned audiences, "This is not your grandma's MacBeth." She said this explores MacBeth as if he speaks in extremes like like Caligula, Napoleon and Hilter. "You have leaders saying the quiet part out loud," she shared. She describes this version of MacBeth as removing the polite mask and allowing him to be a grotesque being. The cast is made up of four actors who play a variety of characters. "What's fun is you see somebody go off and then they come on as somebody completely new in the next scene. … So we're doing a lot of body work and voice work to create and to delineate these characters, because they each play a number of characters," she shared. The show runs Oct. 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the Parkview Room at Johnson-Springview Park in Rocklin. You can find tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/placer-reps-macbeth-tickets-995596996417
