Vista wins third straight, hosts playoff game

After some trying times, Vista del Lago's varsity football team has come together and finished the season with a three-game winning streak, ending with a 35-0 win over Bella Vista on Friday night. A steady to heavy rain that fell made things difficult for the Eagles, though you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the scoreboard. "The rain made it difficult, as we didn't play as cleanly as we would have liked," Vista del Lago coach Kyle Landes said. "I thought we did a good job of putting a quality product on the field despite the conditions." Ironically, Vista was able to throw the ball in the rain, as quarterback Grant Rogers completed 10-of-15 passes for 156 yards and four touchdowns. Willie Green caught two touchdown passes and ran in another one from 62 yards out while Matt Werpy and Kyle Cromwell also caught touchdown passes. "It's hard to deny Willie Green with three scores," Landes said. "Grant threw it for four scores in the rain and that's difficult to do as a quarterback. He continues to put us in positions to win ball games. "Defensively, Logan Murray is becoming monstrous." With the win, the Eagles evened their record at 5-5 on the year, as they also earned No. 6 seed in the Division III playoffs where they will host No. 11 Johansen (5-5) on Friday. Landes was hoping for a chance to have a home playoff game and the Eagles have one.
