Placer SPCA seeks nominations for 2025 Hero Awards

Placer SPCA is accepting nominations for the 2025 Hero Awards, to be presented at the Guardian Angel Gala & Awards Night on Friday, March 7. Each year, these awards honor people, animals, businesses and organizations that have gone above and beyond to demonstrate the strength of the human-animal bond. Past Hero Award recipients include: · Butter, a certified therapy dog from the Roseville Police Department Social Services Unit who has the ability to sense and provide comfort to individuals experiencing trauma – whether emotional, mental or physical. During one of his calls for service, Butter exhibited behavior that signaled a medical emergency involving a senior citizen's leg, despite no visible signs or distress. The citizen decided to visit a hospital based on Butter's alert, where it was discovered they were battling a life-threatening infection. This early intervention ultimately saved the citizen's life. · Firefighters Brian Guernsey, Ryan Jay and Dusty Gooch from the Roseville Fire Department were also recognized for their heroic efforts. The team successfully rescued a 3-month-old kitten trapped in the engine compartment of a white Honda Pilot. The driver, who heard meowing during a drive from home to a local high school, contacted the fire department for assistance. Thanks to their quick response, the crew safely freed and reunited the kitten with its owner. If you know an animal that has made a meaningful impact on people or a person who has made a difference for animals, please submit a nomination for the Hero Awards by Feb. 14 at https://forms.gle/yy5JwFv2UhHG2hQT9. The Guardian Angel Gala & Awards Night is Placer SPCA's most significant fundraiser of the year, held at Sun City Roseville's Timber Creek Ballroom. Guests enjoy great food and company, exciting auctions, entertainment and heartfelt moments as they support Placer County's companion animals in need.
