Placer Sheriff to host ID theft, fraud seminar

The Placer County Sheriff's Office is hosting an Identity Theft, Fraud and Scam Prevention Seminar on Tuesday, March 4. "Tax season is here, and so are the crooks looking to steal your personal information," the Sheriff's Office stated Thursday morning on Facebook. "Don't fall victim to their tricks!" The Sheriff's Office confirmed detectives will provide an overview of the latest scams and share insider tips on how to spot them before you're caught off guard. The seminar will also allow attendees to ask questions and get expert advice on safeguarding information. According to the United States Sentencing Commission, of the 64,124 cases reported in fiscal year 2023, 363 involved tax fraud. The seminar will be from 6-8 p.m. March 4 in the Community Room of the Auburn Justice Center, 2929 Richardson Drive in Auburn. To RSVP for the seminar, email Detective Kim at kkim@placer.ca.gov.
