Virtual charter high school in Auburn launches early college program

Maidu Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA), an Alternative Education Program within the Placer Union High School District, has partnered with Sierra College to introduce an Early College Program starting in August. This initiative provides students in grades 9-12 access to three distinct higher education opportunities while they work toward earning their high school diploma. The higher education pathways available to students include: earning an Associate's degree, completing various general education college courses to earn college credits, and/or obtaining career certifications in a chosen field. These options provide students an opportunity to gain a head start on their college education and future careers. MVCA values its partnership with Sierra College, which offers countless opportunities for students in area communities to acquire essential education and experience at a significantly reduced cost. "These programs could potentially save our students and their families up to $25,000 in college tuition," said MVCA Assistant Principal Kristen Miller. MVCA is an online charter school so students residing in Placer or any adjacent county can apply (space is limited).
