Tree lighting to brighten Downtown this Friday

Vernon Street's Colorado blue spruce is ready to shine. The tree will take center stage Friday for the city's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, slated for 8 p.m. just outside City Hall."Downtown Roseville is kind of a cultural center in Roseville," said Scott Alvord, President of Downtown Roseville Merchants, Inc., as well as co-owner of coffee and party spot A Dash of Panache. "The tree lighting is a very memorable thing and it's really fun. And, it's a tradition."And the tree isn't the only attraction beckoning residents this year in the historic business district during the holiday season.Food and craft vendors, and tables filled with other gift ideas will also be on hand, organizers said. And the street's business owners are trying something new this year, selling collectible Vernon Street-themed Christmas ornaments. The ornaments feature etched designs of the iconic Tower Theater and 2252 steam locomotive. The limited-edition ornaments will be available for $10 at the event, with funds going to the Roseville High School art department. In addition, the street's merchants are once again welcoming the season by turning into the Street of Wreathes. Wreaths made by various Adventure Club after-school program locations hang in nearly thirty shop windows for shoppers to enjoy and vote on through the beginning of January (see below).
