Mercy Hospital of Folsom Auxiliary scholarship recipients announced

Recipients of this year's medical scholarship program from Mercy Hospital of Folsom Auxiliary have been announced, an exciting moment for local students who are pursuing a career in the medical field. Every applicant is pursuing a career in a health occupation and is actively enrolled in colleges classes, or will be next semester. The application process involved filling out an extensive application, including references, grades and a personal statement. The applicants also participated in an interview process with auxiliary members on the scholarship committee. Scholarship recipients were recognized and honored at the annual scholarship brunch, with their parents and friends in attendance. They are Liza Ageeva, Sean McLeod, Habiba Darwish, Kaylee Koo, Maxine Yu, Daisy Cuadra, Samantha Jacobs, Mia Yasutake, Audrey Tran, Ivy Wooster, Amy Shchirov and Emma Thompson. The auxiliary has been awarding scholarships to medical students since it was founded in 1976. The purpose of the organization initially was to assist in various roles at the hospital, such as greeting visitors, running the gift shop and helping nurses with patient care. Since then, they have given away almost $300,000, money that was earned through proceeds from the hospital gift shop.
