Auburn Area Democratic Club plans for Juneteenth Celebration

The Auburn Area Democratic Club (AADC) will hold its monthly membership meeting on Thursday, June 4, at 5:45 p.m. in the Rose Room in City Hall. Julann Brown, chair of the Placer County Democratic Party, will speak to the collaborative achievements of Democrats countywide, emphasizing the volunteer power, community engagement and organizing that helped elevate Democratic values and visibility during the primary season. "Our clubs and volunteers proved what's possible when we work with clarity and shared purpose," Brown said. "The commitment we saw throughout the primary has laid a strong foundation – and now we must keep building. The work we do in the months ahead is what will drive strong participation and real momentum as we move toward November." In conjunction with sharing community values, the AADC meeting will also feature a presentation about the sixth annual Juneteenth celebration in Rocklin on Saturday, June 20. Twiana Armstrong, founder of the esteemed nonprofit See My Child, has organized this event to commemorate family, community, education and youth achievement. Juneteenth is the nation's newest holiday. It officially became a federal holiday in 2021, marking the day in 1865 when Union soldiers informed enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, of their freedom. It has been celebrated in the South since 1865, and it gradually spread to other regions. Juneteenth also serves as a reminder of the continual work to achieve civil rights and justice as the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence approaches. Socialize with pizza and soft drinks ($5 for one slice, $9 for two) in the Rose Room at Auburn City Hall, 1225 Lincoln Way, starting at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, June 4.
