Man jumps to death from bridge

An unidentified man jumped to his death around 8:15 a.m. Friday from the Foresthill Bridge, according to a California Department of Forestry official.Emergency crews from the Placer County Sheriff's Department, the Auburn State Recreation Area, and the California Department of Forestry responded to the morning call of a possible jumper.Officials have not released the name of the victim, who reportedly was found along with a mountain bike at the base of the bridge on the south side of the American River. CDF Battalion Chief Jeff Brand said it appeared the man had committed suicide.No further information was available at press time. The most recent known suicide from the Foresthill Bridge occurred Oct. 19 when the bodies of Bryon K. Kincannon, 45, and his wife Sallee Anne, 44, both of Brownsville, were found underneath the 730-foot-high bridge about 20 yards from the banks of the American River.Telephone call boxes were installed in February to provide 24-hour crisis counseling to aid the despondent in finding help.- Penne Usher
