John Z. Winford

John died peacefully on January 3, 2006 surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Mettleton, Arkansas, on June 3, 1943 and later moved to southern California and attended Hoover High School.For the past 31 years he has lived in Auburn. For most of his life he worked in construction and spent 20 years with PG&E working in the Hydro Department as a heavy equipment operator.John was a longstanding volunteer docent for the Placer County Department of Museums and was a member of the Mother Lode Goldhounds.Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Doris Winford; three children, John K. Winford of Auburn, Greg Z. Winford of Weimar and Shannon M. Winford of Auburn; two grandchildren, Alysia Winford of Rocklin and Josh W. Nicholson of Auburn; a brother and sister of Wright, Arkansas, Don Winford and Terry Winford; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna L. Winford; his father, Burnis L. Winford; and his brother, Jimmy Winford.John was cherished and loved by his family, friends, neighbors and all those whose lives he touched.Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at the Parkside Church, 3885 Richardson Drive in Auburn.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice or a charity of your choice are suggested.
