Dorothy Margaret Brackenbury

Dorothy M. Brackenbury of John Day, Oregon, died Friday, August 26 of natural causes. She was 84.Mrs. Brackenbury was born May 15, 1919 in North Hollywood, California to Clifford and Carla (Husted) Grant.In North Hollywood, CA she also met and married her late husband, Edward Vaile Brackenbury.In 1954, she moved to Auburn, California, where she and her husband lived for 48 years. She worked for The Placer Union High School District as an office administrator. Dorothy was active in the Society of Western Artists and served as President for 2 terms. She gave private art lessons for 35 years. Dorothy was active in Eastern Star. In 2002, she moved to John Day, Oregon, to be near her daughter, Julia and family. Her love for art and her family were her passion.A large painting of hers will be hung in Valley View Assisted Living in John Day, Oregon, in her memory.Survivors include her son, Edward V. Brackenbury, Jr. (daughter-in-law Christine Brackenbury) of Palo Alto, California, and a daughter, Julia Wenzel (son-in-law Robert Wenzel) of Mt. Vernon, Oregon; five grandchildren, Brian Wenzel, Mike Wenzel, Timothy Wenzel, Andrew Brackenbury and Elizabeth Brackenbury; and two great-grandchildren, Corey Wenzel and Reyan Wenzel.A memorial service was held at Valley View Assisted Living, August 29, 2003 in John Day. Inurnment will be at New Auburn Cemetery, in Auburn, CA, at a later date. Autumn Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
