Placer's Seiler sets record at swim meet

Placer freshman David Seiler set a new Sierra Foothill League record in the 100-meter butterfly and also won the 200 freestyle to lead the Hillmen at the Sierra Foothill League Championships Saturday at Woodcreek High.Seiler cruised to a time of 51.88 seconds in the 100 fly, setting a league best. Seiler won the 200 free with a time of 1:46.33 and also helped the 400 free relay team to a Sac-Joaquin Section-qualifying time of 3:32.56, good for third place.Scott Monroe qualified for the section meet in the 100 free (51.41), taking fifth and in the 100 back (59.85) with a sixth place finish.Junior Brian Richards took was fifth in the 500 free (5:10.34) to qualify for the section meet.The Placer girls capped an outstanding performance as Jamie Leeds, Jessica Wagner, Alyssa Tull and Alyssa Geraghty posted a win in the 400 free relay (3:56.56).The Hillgals had 10 swimmers qualify for the section meet, led by freshman Tull, who took second in both the 200 free (1:58.50) and the 500 free (5:12.24). Whitney Porter had a qualifying time of 2:12.55 in the 200 free, taking ninth.Senior Geraghty was third in the 200 individual medley (2:19.23) while Leeds qualified for sections as well (2:27.46). In the 50 free Wagner was fourth (26.68) and Katherine Tostenson was 10th (27.66). Wagner was third in the 100 free (58.75) while Kelly Hangaard (1:00.49) and Tostenson (1:00.79) were both qualifiers.Vickie Nemes was fifth in the 100 fly (1:06.60) while Chantelle Pellow was sixth (1:06.83). Megan Veling took eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:09.77) to qualify for sections and in the 100 breaststroke, Geraghty (1:12.01) and Leeds (1:16.15) were both qualifiers. In JV action, Spencer Shapton had a win in the 100 free for the Placer boys. Other section qualifiers were Derek Buda, Tyler Sussman, Wes Chenowith and Carter Daniel.For the Placer JV girls, Jillian Ferretti set a new league record in the 200 free (2:14.82) and also won the 100 back (1:09.45). Kendra Roberts had wins in the 50 free (27.27) and the 100 free (1:00.64). Ferretti, Michaela Flagg, Jamie Demes and Roz Wasilco teamed to win the 200 medley relay and in the 200 free relay, Flagg, Wasilco, Demes and Roberts got the victory. Malory Barker, Flagg, Roberts and Ferretti took the 400 free relay (4:14.30).BaseballPlacer 12, Natomas 6 at Sacramento ? The Hillmen reeled off their fifth straight Sierra Foothill League win Friday on the road, doubling up the Nighthawks.The Hillmen scored in every inning as Mike Lenz and Kyle Prewitt both went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the way. Ryan Pendergraft was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Placer (9-3 SFL), which is tied for second with Woodcreek in the SFL standings.Bear River 3, Mesa Verde 2 at Lake of the Pines ? Chris Smith drove home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a double as the Bruins pulled out a Pioneer Valley League victory at home.Myles Anderson tossed a complete-game, five-hitter with nine strikeouts. Britton Barber and Matt Hilton had doubles and Anthony Welz went 2-for-3. The Bruins improved to a league-leading 9-1 in the PVL.
