Roseville humbles Montgomery

The Roseville High School boys basketball team split its first two games at the recent Folsom boys basketball tourney, first losing to host Folsom 80-46 on Thursday, but bouncing back the following day, taking a 65-42 win over Montgomery High School from Santa Rosa.Tiger's post player Kevin Crabb led the way both days scoring 10 points against Folsom and then coming back with 16 and 11 rebounds in Friday's win. Against Folsom, Dylan Fleming had eight points, while Nico Ruiz and Toby DeMello each scored seven.Against Montgomery, Nick Schwyzer joined Crabb in double figures with 14.On Saturday, in the tourney final, Roseville fell to Placer 67-55. Again Crabb was high scorer with 17 points, while Ruiz added 12.The Tigers traveled to McNair High School in Stockton on Monday, losing in overtime 79-73. Crabb had a season-high 31 points with 11 rebounds, Ruiz added 12 and DeMello had 12."We got off to a slow start and that was the difference in the game," Tiger coach Greg Granucci said. "But we fought back and had several chances to win the game in overtime."The loss sent the Tiger's season record to 3-9. Roseville girls drop three at Pinole ValleyThe Lady Tigers tasted defeat three times during last weekend's Pinole Holiday Classic, losing first to Pleasant Valley 58-44 on Thursday, Vallejo 58-42 on Friday, and finally falling to Casa Grande 45-35 on Saturday.Roseville sophomore post Katie Simon led the Lady Tigers in scoring and rebounding for all three games. came within two steals of recording a triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals. Alicia Mervau added eight points.Simon again led the way for the Lady Tigers in Friday and Saturday's games, scoring 13 points with seven rebounds and three steals against Vallejo, then scoring nine points with seven rebounds against Casa Grande. Alicia Mervau had nine points against Vallejo, while Lauren Aslin scored seven.Katie Marshall contributed nine points in the Casa Roble contest along with six points, nine rebounds and six steals from Breanna Warnock.
