Updated: Another suspicious fire destroys home in Granite Bay

For the second time in less than a week, an early-morning fire that officials are calling suspicious has destroyed a home in Granite Bay.The latest blaze occurred around 3:30 a.m. Saturday at a one-story house on Olive Ranch Road, Lawrence Bettencourt, deputy chief for the South Placer Fire Protection District, said Sunday. The first crews arrived to find the attic and three rooms on fire, he said. No injuries were reported and the fire was contained within 45 minutes, but the roughly 2,000-square-foot home was completely destroyed, Bettencourt said.The owner was out of town at the time of the fire, but upon returning discovered some property was missing, and has since filed a burglary report. Authorities also discovered what appeared to be gang-related graffiti at the scene.Bob Richardson, South Placer fire marshal, said Tuesday the fire appeared to have started in the garage, But we're not sure because extent of damage is so extensive.He said investigators this week were still looking for a cause.We're still digging through the scene and interviewing people, he said.Damage estimates were not yet available, he said.On March 17, an early-morning house fire in the upscale Wexford development in Granite Bay also occurred while the owners were out of town. That blaze has been termed suspicious after investigators also ruled out accidental causes, and it remains under investigation.This is two in a row now, Bettencourt said.Richardson said there's no evidence to suggest the fires are related.I see nothing here that would connect the two, he said.
