Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline tribute band to play at Blue Goose

The Rhythm Riders, a Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline tribute band, will hold a benefit concert on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Blue Goose in Loomis. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the concert is at 8 p.m.Proceeds will benefit Penryn Plays!, a campaign to build a new community playground at Penryn Elementary School."We are honored to donate this concert to benefit the Penryn community," said Johnny and Dee Price, the founders and lead vocalists for the band."Our grandchildren attend Penryn Elementary School so performing this concert to raise money for a new community playground is personally important to us," said the couple.The playground and ball fields of Penryn Elementary double as the school's playground as well as the only gathering place for families to exercise and recreate."I have come to care deeply for this community and school very quickly," said first-year principal Andy Withers. "The community pride and parental involvement is like nothing I have ever seen as a principal. I appreciate everyone's willingness to make sure our students and the entire community has a safe and engaging place to play."A committee of parents, community members and school administration has made the decision to seek private contributions in order to expedite the new playground.The mission of the Penryn Plays! Campaign is to raise $500,000 to complete the two-phase renovation of the playground area and ball fields located on the school campus."Most Loomis Union School District elementary school playgrounds have been recently renovated.
