Meth, stolen car, arrests during homeless camp checks

Efforts to find and close illegal homeless campsites in Auburn have led to the arrests of two people on suspicion of meth and stolen-vehicle possession. Auburn Police said the suspects were found with the stolen car, meth and drug paraphernalia. The location of the discovery was a heavily wooded area behind homes on Sawka Drive, off Indian Hill Road, Auburn Police said. The arrests came during a patrol by the Community Action Team, which includes police, county probation and city code enforcement officers. Eight locations were visited during this past week's action team activity, with no camps located in sites near Auburn Town Center, the Auburn Ravine Trail, Old Town Auburn, the 200-block of Palm Avenue, Mikkelsen Drive, Elm Avenue and the Auburn Recreation District skate park at Overlook Park on Pacific Avenue. The week before, 19 locations were visited and 15 people were contacted. Placer County Health and Human Services staff offered services to 10 people and three accepted, police said. The checks included Blocker Drive, the multimodal train station on Blocker Drive, Nevada and Placer streets, and Old Town. There was one arrest on warrants. The team is asking for people who see something that might be homeless camping activity to report what they observe to the police communication center 24-hours-a-day at 530-823-4234.
