Attempted kidnapping in Roseville linked to Lincoln suspect

Police believe an attempted kidnapping on Tuesday, July 22, in a shopping center along Douglas Boulevard could be related to a similar Lincoln incident on Sunday, July 20.In the Roseville incident, authorities say a 29-year-old woman was sitting in her car at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot at 8690 Sierra College Blvd, the Renaissance Creek shopping center, when a man entered through a rear door and grabbed her around the neck. The woman told police she began honking her horn as she opened her driver's door and escaped. The suspect took her purse before fleeing in his vehicle, described as a late-model maroon Dodge Durango.The Lincoln Police Department reported this week that a man of similar description was responsible for an attempted kidnapping at the Raley's gas station in Lincoln on Sunday. In that incident, at approximately 10:30 p.m. a 19-year-old female employee of the gas station told the police she was standing in the car wash area when a white male attempted to force her into his vehicle, also a maroon Dodge Durango. The victim was able to escape uninjured and the suspect was gone upon the arrival of Lincoln Police officers. Roseville Police Lt. Stefan Moore said both women did the right thing in resisting the unknown suspect."I think it's clear that the intentions of the suspect were extremely bad and their captivity was at stake here, so both did a very good job of fighting him off," he said.Moore said the suspect was sitting in his car next to the Roseville woman for about 10 minutes before attempting the kidnapping."Her intuition was something not right had she a little bit of a plan," he said. "She started screaming and honking the horn. Any time somebody does something like that or someone threatens you to be quiet, that is a key sign to do the opposite."The man was described as a Caucasian male in his early 30s with a mustache and goatee and short blonde hair in a buzz cut. He was 5-foot-11 to 6-foot tall and approximately 220 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt, police said. The maroon Dodge Durango had its rear windows tinted. Detectives from both agencies are currently investigating the crimes and urge anyone who may have seen the above-described suspect or vehicle, or who has any other information about this incident, to call the Lincoln Police Department at 645-4040 or Roseville Police at 774-5000.
