Lincoln Walmart helps St. Vincent DePaul feed those in need

Lincoln St. Vincent DePaul Conference was presented Aug. 2 with a $5,000 check at the Lincoln Walmart Neighborhood Market's grand re-opening. Over the years, Walmart has given five grants to the Lincoln St. Vincent DePaul to help feed the poor, according to the organization's grant writer Ron Morin. The St. Joseph, Lincoln Conference offers a 24/7 hotline at 916-645-7201 for residents if they need help with food, rent, utilities, clothes or furniture. Purchased food cards are given to those in need by the St. Vincent DePaul Home Visits teams. A two-member home visit team determines the needs of each family visited. If food is needed, Walmart food cards of various denominations are given, depending on the family's size. To date, St. Vincent DePaul has handed out more than $185,000 in food cards bought from Walmart, according to Morin.. The Lincoln St. Vincent DePaul Conference, formed in November 2003 to meet the needs of Lincoln, Wheatland, Sheridan and Nicolaus residents, is sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lincoln parishioners.
