Man who killed himself at Kaseberg Park was Roseville resident Donald Key, 65

A man used a firearm to kill himself on a bench at Roseville's Kaseberg Park just before noon Monday, according to the Roseville Police Department. The Placer County Sheriff/Coroner's Office identified the deceased as Donald Key, 65, of Roseville. Key killed himself shortly after Roseville Police officers arrived on scene and began talking to him, according to a Facebook post by the department. Roseville Police Department spokesman Rob Baquera said there were other patrons in the park at the time of the incident but there have been no reports of anyone witnessing the incident. Some patrons in the park were Kaseberg Elementary School students, he added. According to the post, the incident began at 11:38 a.m. Monday when the department received a call reporting a suspicious person walking toward Kaseberg Park. Kaseberg Park is located just northeast of the Foothills Boulevard and Baseline Road intersection. Initial reports were that the suspicious person was armed with a gun, thus forcing nearby Kaseberg Elementary School to go into lockdown, the post stated. Key then walked to a bench inside Kaseberg Park and sat down until officers arrived there. Moments after initial contact, according to the post, Key used a firearm to kill himself. No students, officers or bystanders were injured during this incident, according to the post. No shots were fired from anyone other than Key. A few hours after the incident occurred Monday, Kaseberg Park was cleared for use and Kaseberg Elementary School lockdown status was removed.
