Theresa Shaw's 67 leads Bruins golfers to PVL crown

Like it has done all season long, the Bear River girls golf team set the pace at the second Pioneer Valley League tournament of the season. Playing Monday at Diamond Oaks Golf Club in Roseville, the Bruins followed a blistering school record 5-under-par 67 from freshman Theresa Shaw to shoot a team total of 399 and easily outdistance the PVL field to win their second straight league championship. "The girls did a good job," said Bear River coach Gayne Nakano. "Theresa's 67 was her best ever competitive round." Following Theresa in for the Bruins was her sophomore sister Corina Shaw, who shot a 2-over-par 74. Dominique Peter was next with an 82 followed by sophomore Julia Pisenti with an 83 and Sarah Aanenson with a 93. Tressie Costantino had a non-scoring 97. All five Bear River golfers earned All-PVL honors with Theresa Shaw garnering the league MVP award, which is decided by a season-long points system. Colfax finished second in the team standings with a score of 504 and will join Bear River Monday at Auburn Valley Golf Club in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V tournament, which the Bruins also won last season. Leading Colfax's scores was Lauren Conway (90), Annah Sutherland (94), Roxanne Reynolds (95), Megan Towne (113) and Amy Groth (115). Earning All-PVL honors for the Lady Falcons were Reynolds, Conway and Sutherland.
