PCSO investigates Del Oro threat Tuesday; Suspect placed in custody

Placer County Sheriff's Office deputies investigated an undisclosed threat to Del Oro High School Tuesday, according to a letter distributed to parents by Principal Chelsy Nauman. According to the letter, Del Oro High administration received phone calls from concerned parents alerting of a potential threat to the school at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday. According to the letter, administration immediately contacted the Placer County Sheriff's Office, which conducted an investigation into the nature and credibility of the threat. It was determined that there was no imminent threat to Del Oro High, the letter added. In a statement on Facebook Wednesday, Placer County Sheriff's Office Loomis Station Commander Josh Barnhart said authorities were still investigating the threat and a suspect was in custody. Additional deputies were present Wednesday to complement the Del Oro High resource deputy who is at the school full-time, the statement continued. "We take all matters of student and staff safety very seriously," Nauman wrote in the letter. "As an extra sense of comfort, we have asked for law enforcement to be on campus tomorrow (Wednesday). We thank our friends from the Sheriff's Office for their swift response." Nauman added Del Oro High continues to reinforce the importance of "when you hear or see something concerning, to report it immediately."
