Sutter Street is a safe place

In response to Shonna Martin's letter last week in the Telegraph, I would just like to express my concern of people's view of the Police Department's priorities. I am a reserve officer for Folsom and usually work Friday or Saturday nights as extra patrol. I reside in the Historic District and this area is usually my main focus when working. The police department has an obligation to this community to keep drunk drivers off the streets and maintain safe driving habits to protect the community, but that is just part of it. I can assure you that usually there is a great police presence within the Historic District and while some vandalism or violence may not be detected right away, the majority of issues within this area are handled within minutes, sometimes seconds, after they begin. My hat is off to the police department and their response times, especially during these tough economic times and increased calls for service. It is important to know that the Historic District is a safe and pleasant place to visit and the area is getting a bad rap when a few incidents get blown out of proportion.Doug ScalziFolsom
