New principals take over at area schools

Schools throughout Rose-ville will welcome a slate of new principals when classes start later this month.In the Roseville City School District, Vencil Brown, Blue Oaks and Jefferson elementary schools will see new leadership at the top.Marc Buljan, an assistant principal at Eich Jr. High, will head up Vencil Brown Elementary School, taking over for former principal Adam Hentschke.That puts him in the position of leading a school in the same district that already has one named after his father, former Roseville Mayor George Buljan, in Buljan Middle School.Jeff Anker will be the new principal at Blue Oaks Elementary. Anker has been an assistant principal in the Center Unified School District for the past three years, but he has a history in the district, having served as a sixth-grade teacher at Cooley Middle School and Vencil Brown.At Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, Barbara Jelicich, a principal from the Mountain Valley Unified School District in Hayfork, Calif., will replace principal Carin Contreras. Contreras is moving to a curriculum position in the district office.Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District trustees were slated on Thursday to approve a new principal for Silverado Middle School to permanently replace former Principal Chuck Bush. At press time, the applicant's name had not been released. Assistant Principal Priscilla Rasanen closed out the school year in the school's top administrator position.The Eureka Union School District announced earlier this year a number of administrative changes. Former teacher Janet Schimpf will serve as principal of Maidu School; Ridgeview School Principal Patrice McCallum will also oversee neighboring Oakhills School; and Jennifer Platt, formerly principal at Maidu, will take over principal duties at Cavitt Jr. High.No major changes for existing schools in the Roseville Joint Union High School are planned – but a new principal is on deck at Antelope High School. John Becker, formerly of West Campus High School in Sacramento, has spent the past year prepping for the opening of the much-anticipated school, which opens along with Antelope, Granite Bay, Oakmont and Roseville on Aug. 21. Woodcreek opens Monday.
