Rocklin Unified donates 10,000 masks to Sutter Roseville

Sutter Roseville Medical Center received an unexpected donation Monday when Rocklin Unified School District's custodial supervisor Taylor Moe presented Bryan Alexander, Sutter Roseville's CEO, with 10,000 masks. "The idea came up between our department, our district office and an individual from Sutter who has a connection to the district," Moe said. "The question was posed about if we have anything we can donate and we had an excess of masks that we have stored 'just in case' for a number of years," Moe added. "Seemed like this was the right time to do something with them, so my department jointly with the district decided to donate them." Students Emily and Alli Brustman have taken Jennifer Reasner's Spanish classes at Whitney High School, explained Diana Capra, Rocklin Unified School District Office of Communications chief. "Their mother,Caryn Brustman, who runs the medical surgical unit at Sutter Roseville, asked Jennifer if the district could donate," Capra said. "Reasner reached out to our district nurse, Melissa Locketz, who asked our Facilities, Maintenance and Operations director Craig Rouse… he found them and Taylor delivered them." "We consider ourselves privileged to be in a vocation that allows us to help people in times of crises, and continue to be gratified by the outpouring of support from our community," Alexander said. "Philanthropy of all kinds is critical in ensuring that we maintain our ability to care for patients and keep our staff safe during this extended health emergency," he added. We are particularly thankful to our longstanding community partners, like the school districts, who have donated to help." "Overall, we are just glad to be able to do what we could during this challenging season," Moe responded. Other donations are needed "Our top priority continues to be the health and safety of our patients, providers and communities," said Rishi Sikka, M.D. and president of Sutter Health System Enterprises. "Like all hospitals and health systems during this unprecedented health emergency, Sutter Health anticipates a shortage of medical supplies, including personal protective equipment (PPE)," Sikka said. "We are pursuing additional avenues to bolster and conserve our supplies, so we can meet critical community need while maintaining patient and frontline staff safety. We are asking for business and community donations of the following new items in original packaging: • N95 masks • Powered, air-purifying respirator (PAPR) Hoods • Surgical masks • Procedure masks • Isolation gowns • Paper masks (with ties or elastic) • Paper protective gowns • Protective glasses/goggles • Industrial face shields (e.g., industrial face shields) • Painters smocks (impermeable). For large local donations, a courier service can be arranged.
