Sports complex now open on weekdays

The Andy Morin Sports Complex re-opened on Oct. 19 and the basketball teams came roaring back. While there were very few walk-ins for people wanting to play table tennis, use the batting cages, play pickleball or anything else, a large majority of the time slots open for the basketball courts were quickly filled in the first week. The sports complex had been closed since July 2. "We've had some nice weather so I think a lot of people are enjoying the outdoors," said Derik Perez, Recreation Supervisor with the Folsom Parks and Recreation Department. "Most every night, though, we've been busy with basketball court rentals. As the weather turns, we should be more visitors." The complex has strict set of safety precautions they're following, beginning with how many people allowed in the building. Only 76 people, a tenth of maximum occupancy, are allowed in the building at one time. The front doors remain open to keep people from having to touch the doors. Depending on whatever guests are there to do, there are one-way directions on how to get there and then how to get back outside the building. Everything is sterilized after use, and all visitors must wear a mask. "We have a 15-minute gap between rentals on the basketball court so we can sanitize the court and where the players put their things," Perez said. "People using the batting cages must bring their own bat and helmet. We've got hand sanitizer everywhere. We've modified the window at the front desk, and we clean high-contact surfaces frequently." The sports complex is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
