Happy 103rd birthday, Gladys Irene Englert

Editor's note: Gladys Irene Englert lives in Loomis. When asked what advice her mother would give residents, Susan Tomlin said, "She would probably say to keep music in our lives and enjoy chocolate. She is always cheerful and humming or singing a tune that she remembers. And she remembers all the verses!" Your children are paying tribute to you on your special day, Jan. 17, 2021, as a beautiful, loving mother and a lifelong friend. You were born on Jan. 17, 1918 in central Pennsylvania to John and Sarah Selfe and were one of seven children. You were raised on a farm where you and your siblings worked hard to help with farm chores and raise crops for your family and the local farmers' market. At the age of 19, you married Ralph Arthur Englert, the handsome neighbor boy and went on to raise eight children with love and patience. Dad has passed on but you continue to support each of us with your amazing good cheer and thoughtfulness. We are truly blessed to be celebrating your 103rd birthday on Sunday, Jan. 17.
