Loomis town clerk Strock marks 33 years at job

With very little on the agenda, the Loomis Town Council regular monthly meeting lasted only 19 minutes Tuesday. The quick meeting was highlighted by the council honoring Loomis town clerk Crickett Strock, who celebrated 33 years on staff this month. Loomis Town Manager Sean Rabe presented Strock with a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion. Stock is tentatively scheduled to retire this year but has agreed to stay on until an adequate town clerk replacement is found. "Thirty-three years! That is amazing," said Councilwoman Jan Clark-Crets. Also celebrating work anniversaries are Public Works Director David Strock completing 16 years on the job this month, while administrative clerk Sara Jennings marks three years with the town of Loomis. In other business, Rabe reported the town will likely continue to offer remote Zoom attendance of council meetings, although meetings are now open to in-person attendance again. "It's something I think we'll keep doing for quite a while, most likely," Rabe said. The town manager also reported the town is expecting a final application from the proposed Hidden Grove developers in September or October. "We'll start the formal environmental impact procedures once that's received," Rabe said. Loomis town officials recently circulated requests for Environmental Impact Report work proposals, which would include Environmental Impact Report work on the pending, 900,000-square-foot "Green Business Park" development on Sierra College Boulevard. Four Environmental Impact Report contract proposals were submitted. Rabe explained the developer pays for the Environmental Impact Report work imbursed by the city. Rabe also mentioned the "Town Manager Tuesday" meeting is switched this month from the fourth Tuesday to the fifth Tuesday or Aug. 31. "I'll be out of town on the fourth Tuesday and I didn't want to cancel it," Rabe said. The informal meeting will be at the Loomis Train Depot off of Taylor Road and Horseshoe Bar Road at 9 a.m. Aug. 31. Rabe also reported the town will soon contract to "stripe" the high-visibility Webb Street crosswalk on Taylor Road, after it was erased with recent Taylor Road improvements. "Our (Public Works) crew doesn't have the equipment to do that, so we will hopefully get that done in the next couple of months," Rabe said. As part of the consent agenda, the Town Council also declared two vehicles and an old grader as surplus for public auction. The grader was acquired in 1985 when the town still performed grading on gravel roads, officials said. But the town now performs such maintenance so infrequently the equipment is idle most of the time. The grader is valued at $20,000, according to the staff report. The town also released a 1999 Ford F150 and a 2002 Ford Taurus. Tuesday's council meeting included consent agenda items only with no regular agenda issues.
