Folsom's Doug and Nancy Hillis are celebrating 70 years of marriage

On Aug. 17, long-time residents Doug and Nancy Hillis celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at a special gathering hosted by their daughter, Joan Jarman, at the Cliff House. Doug and Nancy Hillis are Folsom High School graduates. They served more than 20 years as missionaries in Venezuela and are charter members of Folsom Community Bible Church. Doug and Nancy, both 91 years old, have four children, 14 grandchildren and 30 great- grandchildren. Local and out-of-state friends and family members paid tribute to the couple at the festivity. Their children, Paul Hillis and Jeanne Poarch, welcomed guests and congratulated their parents on reaching the 70th-year landmark. A message from their daughter, Sharon, unable to attend, was read by her two children, Neil Gowan and Katrina Hickle. At the event's closing, Doug and Nancy Hillis thanked everyone, noting they were looking forward to the Hillis family's 24th annual Christmas caroling at Folsom Mercy Hospital, a tradition started by the couple.
