Lincoln and Twelve Bridges high schools perform well at league 18-hole tournaments

Lincoln High School girls' golf team members played in their first 18-hole Foothill Valley League tournament of the season at the Haggin Oaks Alister Mackenzie course Monday, finishing in fourth-place with a team score of 550. "All six players have never played 18 holes and they were such troopers out there," coach Daniela Solley said. "I am so proud of my girls." Senior Emily Litherland led the way for the Zebras with a score of 91, finishing fourth-place overall. She also shot her lowest nine-hole score ever with a 43 on the back side. "I think the course definitely made a difference as it was more straightforward than Turkey Creek and I feel great about my round," Litherland said. "Not stopping and taking a break after nine definitely helped because I just kept going and didn't keep track of what hole we were on." Multiple Zebras shot their lowest nine-hole scores with senior Madison Cummings and junior Alyssa Rizzardo having a new low of 56 and sophomore Abigail Drennon shooting a 63. They were only two shots behind third-place Nevada Union who finished with a total of 548. "I think we can definitely minimize compounded errors and figure out how to get out of trouble with better course management going forward," Solley said. Lincoln High School's next match is on Tuesday against Nevada Union High School at Alta Sierra Country Club. Twelve Bridges High School The Raging Rhinos played their first Pioneer Valley League (PVL) 18-hole tournament on Tuesday at Timber Creek Golf Course, finishing in fourth-place with a team score of 646. "Four of these girls played 18 holes for the first time, so I think it's a step in the right direction and we are on our way to building a good program at Twelve Bridges," co-coach David Foxworthy said. Sophomore Gracie Schultz had the low round for the Rhinos, shooting a 104. Her lowest nine-hole round of the season was a 49 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club against West Park High School on Sept. 1. "It was really great being able to play with other girls and overall, everyone had a great attitude," Schultz said. "My drives and putting could have been better, but other than that, I feel it was pretty solid." The tournament ended up being won by Colfax with a score of 480. Twelve Bridges High School's next match on Monday is against Marysville at Lincoln Hills.
