Football history results in some serious math

If football is a game of numbers, here's some digits to digest in regards to 50 years of Colfax Falcon football which is being celebrated this season and this week with homecoming.Since their first season in 1960, the Falcons have played — including six games this season — a total of 485 games. Colfax's all-time win-loss record in those contests is 270-202-13.By decade the Falcons' records have been as follows: 1960s (40-38-3); 1970s (21-63-3); 1980s (50-41-4); 1990s (62-44-2); 2000s (97-16-2). Remarkably, nearly 60 percent — or 159 victories — of the school's all-time total wins have come since 1990.The Falcons have had nine head coaches over the 50 year span including Glenn Poole (1960-64); Tom Middleton (1965-66); Larry Angove (1967-72); Bob Claycamp (1973-74); John Hays (1976-79, 1991-1995); George Massick (1980-1990); Tony Martello-Mondo Alonzo (1996-1999) and Martello (2000-present).Colfax has played in 13 games that ended in ties over the past 50 seasons. The first was a 21-21 stalemate with Courtland in 1961 and the last one was a 16-16 deadlock in 2001 with Golden Sierra. CIF rules now mandate that all ties be played off at the varsity level with overtime. The Falcons have called four fields their "home field" over the years including the Auburn Fairgrounds, Falcon Field (which now where the current varsity girls softball field stands), the current Marson Stadium and because of construction issues in 1972 for one game, Placer High.Colfax has been a member of five leagues including the Skyline Conference (1960-61), Pioneer League (1962-77), Golden Empire League (1978-1999), Golden Empire League East (1999-2001) and Pioneer Valley League (2002-Present).Colfax has played a total of 26 playoff games with an all-time postseason mark of 16-10. The Falcons' first playoff game was at Benicia in 1982, a 42-21 loss. Its first playoff win was a 19-0 shutout at St. Patrick's of Vallejo in 1986. At home in the playoffs, Colfax is 15-3 with losses coming at the hands of Escalon (1998), Manteca (2004) and Sonora (2005). The first ever home playoff game was in 1997, a 36-22 win over Vanden. The Falcons have won or shared 11 league championships over the years and have won four CIF section titles (1986, 2001, 2002, 2003).As far as individual marks, here are a few in the record books: Longest Rush – 96 yards Scott Kelly, 1998 vs. Marysville; Longest Pass Play – 95 yards Mike McCoy from Ben Galbriath, 2003 at Bear River; Longest Kickoff Return – 96 Yards Chris Estes, 1989 vs. Justin of Napa; Touchdowns (Game) – Josh Huber (6) vs. Rio Linda, 2001; Touchdown Passes (Game) – Marcus Arroyo (6) vs. Lindhurst, 1997; Attempts Rushing (Game) 33 – Tom Patterson, 1986 vs. Oak Ridge; Pat Rawlins, 2009 vs. Mesa Verde.
